Hiking with Company Executives

Hiking with teenagers is one thing; hiking with company executives is quite another. Youngsters usually hike only to enjoy nature and share the experience through social media. While for executives, hiking is expected to be something more. Hiking is a way to escape a burdensome office life, a much-needed refreshment, all while giving great experience of teamwork and leadership.

Hiking Impact on Teamwork and Leadership

Hiking is not just indulging in nature and enjoying scenery. It also has a positive impact on teamwork and leadership development. Everything in the mountain is unpredictable and we are expected to work together in solving any problems that may arise. As a part of the team, we learn to express our opinions, respect the group’s decision, and follow instructions. As a wise man says, a great leader was once a good follower. After going through many hardships and experiences, we can finally lead others by showing how things are done, appreciating our team’s hard work, listening to suggestions, and encouraging everyone in the team to do their best.

Hiking also gives us the joy of conquering the peak as some sense of achievement. This experience is relatable to everyday life where we are faced with high targets in work or business. The big loads of work that seem impossible to be done are actually just another mountain that we can conquer with good teamwork and leadership, step by step.

Hiking with Company Executives to Mount Gede Pangrango

This time, Terantara worked in partnership with Equator Indonesia. We took a group of 3 people to hike Mount Gede Pangrango (check our ultimate guide for hiking Mount Gede Pangrango). All of them are leaders in their company, with 2 of them being C-level executives of big accounting firms in Indonesia, while the last was a high-level manager in a tech company.

First Day of Hiking Mount Gede Pangrango

The itinerary is a bit different than the usual. This time, we planned to spend 3D2N in the mountain. The longer duration enabled us to enjoy the trip more and reduce fatigue as we would have more time to rest. We planned to hike through Cibodas route and go down via Gunung Putri.

On the first day, we pick up our guests from their residences in Jakarta. We arrived at Cibodas at 9 A.M. and had breakfast at a local food stall. The place was clean and the food was good. We had nasi goreng, a typical breakfast menu of Indonesians. Nasi goreng contains a lot of carbohydrates, therefore suitable to have before hiking. The trekking itself started at around 11 A.M. We arrived at Kandang Badak by the afternoon and camped there.

Second Day of Hiking Mount Gede Pangrango

The next day, we planned to hike two summits in a day instead of one. Considering that our guests are fit and determined to do it. Conquering two summits in a day gave us the unmeasurable joy of achievements, and of course, a good story to tell our relatives.
