For those who have been working for so many years in the company, family gathering might seems boring. Same venue and concept every year might make employees loose interest in the activity. Maybe it’s time for a new theme and concept! Here are several unique family gathering themes to spice up your event and bring back the excitement.
Cowboy Theme
Let the attendees to dress like a cowboy by using jeans, button-up shirts, and vest. You can provide cowboy hat with your corporate logo as souvenirs to be worn at the event. There are several venues in West Java that may accommodate cowboy themed company outing. Such as Ranca Upas in Ciwidey or De Ranch in Lembang.
Ranca Upas
Ranca Upas is a popular camping ground located in the Ciwidey area of Bandung, West Java. This campground offers various outdoor activities, and some of them might have cowboy concept such as horse riding, camping, bonfires, and exploration of the natural surroundings.
De Ranch
While Ranca Upas is located away in southern part of Bandung, De Ranch is located in Lembang, northern part of Bandung. Lembang is not far away from Bandung city center and quite popular among visitors. It is a family-friendly recreational park that offers a unique adventure experience, giving visitors a taste of the Wild West. Upon entering De Ranch Lembang, you’ll be transported into a western-style environment, complete with wooden buildings, saloons, and western-style facades. The entire park is designed to resemble a typical Wild West town.
One of the popular activity in De Ranch is horse riding. Visitors can enjoy horseback riding around the park’s designated trails. Trained staff members are available to assist and ensure a safe experience, making it suitable for riders of all levels, including beginners. For younger children or those who may not want to ride full-size horses, De Ranch also offers pony rides. It’s a great option for kids to experience the joy of riding a gentle and friendly pony. In addition to horse-related activities, De Ranch Lembang may offer other fun attractions such as a mini zoo, a playground, archery, and various games that align with the cowboy theme. Here you can also find western-style dining options within the park, making it a perfect place for cowboy themed gathering.
Carnival or Circus Theme
Carnival or circus themed gathering are preferable to be held outdoor during the day. For this family gathering concept, we are going to need a venue with large open space as there will be many games and food stalls. Places like Taman Safari Indonesia in Bogor or The Lodge Maribaya in Bandung might be open to hosting such events. Or if you are tight in budget, you can also rent villas with large garden in West Java. Some of them might be able to be decorated to fit a carnival atmosphere.
You can also create a circus or carnival themed dinner and entertainment during the night in hotel lounge. You can invite magician to perform some tricks and clowns to entertain children. Though this arrangement is more suitable for a semi formal occasion like kick-off meeting or award night than a family gathering. Because children and young kids are more likely to get bored easily, sleepy, and become cranky.
Superhero Theme
In the office, our employee might just be a common people. But in the eyes of their children, their mom and dad are real-life superheroes. They always take care of their family while struggling in everyday work. Let them show off their creativity and style by dressing up as their favorite superhero. A prize shall be awarded to the best-dressed superhero, as voted by all attendees.
Beach Theme
Indonesia is an archipelago with so many beautiful beaches. This company outing theme offers a fantastic opportunity for team building, bonding, and creating lasting memories in a fun environment. You can perform several activities during gathering such as tug-of-war, beach soccer, sandcastle building competitions, treasure hunts, and frisbee contests. After doing activities, you can continue to held a seafood barbeque in the afternoon and make bonfire by the beach at night while making s’mores and sharing stories.
Ethnic and Cultural Theme
Indonesia is rich in culture and heritage. You can choose one of many traditional cultures as your family gathering theme. Sunda, Betawi, or Jawa can be your choice if your company is located in Java Island. You can select the venue based on the ethnic and culture of choice. If you choose Jawa for example, you might consider renting space around Borobudur or Prambanan temples for your venue. Both temples are listed as UNESCO World Heritage and located in Central Java.
Conducting your family gathering around this site will be an unforgettable experience. You can require the attendees to wear traditional clothes like batik or traditional accessory such as blangkon during the event to make it fun. You can utilize the open spaces around the temple for team-building exercises and outdoor activities. It could be anything from trust-building exercises to fun group challenges that foster teamwork and communication. The temples are beautifully lit in the evenings, creating a magical atmosphere. Consider hosting evening events like dinners or cultural performances under the starlit sky.

You can also be creative and propose some other family gathering themes to the management.
